ACTIVITIES & CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH

PREPARING IN STILLNESS

INTROIT

I Will Arise and Go To Jesus

I will arise and go to Jesus, he will embrace me with his arms
In the arms of my dear Savior, O there are ten thousand charms.

Come, thou fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing call for songs of loudest praise.

CALL TO WORSHIP

from Psalm 116

PASTOR: I love the LORD, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.
PEOPLE: Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.
PASTOR: The LORD is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.
PEOPLE: The LORD protects the simplehearted;
when I was in great need, he saved me.

INVOCATION

Pastor Dave Clelland

* HYMN OF PRAISE

Hymn 457 - Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

* CORPORATE CONFESSION OF SIN

ALL: Eternal God, in whom we live and move and have our being,
whose face is hidden from us by our sins,
and whose mercy we forget in the blindness of our hearts:
Cleanse us from all our offenses,
and deliver us from proud thoughts and vain desires,
that with reverent and humble hearts we may draw near to you,
confessing our faults, confiding in your grace,
and finding in you our refuge and strength;
through Jesus Christ your Son. Amen.

* SILENT CONFESSION OF SIN

* ASSURANCE OF PARDON AND PEACE OF GOD

1 Timothy 1:15–16

PASTOR: Hear the promises of God to those who truly repent of their sins and trust in Christ:
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance:
Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.
But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners,
Christ Jesus might display His unlimited patience as an example
for those who would believe on Him and receive eternal life.
The peace of the Lord be always with you!
PEOPLE: And also with you!

* CONFESSION OF FAITH

Heidelberg Catechism 105, 107

PASTOR: What does God require in the sixth commandment?
PEOPLE: That neither in thoughts, nor words, nor gestures,
much less in deeds, I dishonor, hate, wound, or kill my neighbor, by myself or by another: but that I lay aside all desire of revenge: also, that I hurt not myself, nor willfully expose myself
to any danger. For this reason also
the magistrate is armed with the sword, to prevent murder.
PASTOR: But is it enough that we do not kill any man
in the manner mentioned above?
PEOPLE: No: for when God forbids envy, hatred, and anger,
he commands us to love our neighbor as ourselves;
to show patience, peace, meekness, mercy, and all kindness, towards him, and prevent his hurt as much as in us lies;
and that we do good, even to our enemies.

* PRAISING OUR GOD

Doxology (Hymn 731)

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below.
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

* DEDICATING OUR LIVES & GIFTS

ALL: Almighty and ever-blessed God, who in the abundance of your goodness
always gives us more than we desire or dare to ask:
Pour forth upon us, we beseech you, a spirit of thankfulness,
and increase in us the grace of charity, that we may ever be
more willing to give than to receive; and so rule our hearts
that all we have may be used for your service,
and we ourselves be consecrated to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

* HEARING SCRIPTURE

Daniel 9:1-11, 17-19       Elder David Ray

* GREETING ONE ANOTHER IN LOVE

* PREPARING TO HEAR GOD’S WORD

Love Me To The End

A beggar poor, at mercy’s door, Lies such a wretch as I;
Thou know’st my need is great indeed, Lord, hear me when I cry.
With guilt beset and deep in debt, For pardon Lord I pray;
O let Thy love sufficient prove, To take my sins away.

A wicked heart is no small part, Of my distress and shame;
Let sov’reign grace its crimes efface, Through Jesus' blessed name.
My darkened mind I daily find, Is prone to go astray;
Lord on it shine with light divine, And guide it in Thy way.

My stubborn will opposes still, Thy wise and holy hand;
Thy Spirit send to make it bend, To Thy supreme command.
Affections wild by sin defiled, Oft hurry me away;
Lord bring them home nor let them roam, From Christ the Living Way.

Before Thy face I’ve told my case; Lord help and mercy send;
Pity my soul and make me whole, And love me to the end.

Thy Mercy, My God

Thy mercy my God is the theme of my song
The joy of my heart and the boast of my tongue
Thy free grace alone, from the first to the last
Hath won my affection and bound my soul fast

Without Thy sweet mercy I could not live here
Sin soon would reduce me to utter despair
But through Thy free goodness my spirits revive
And He that first made me still keeps me alive

Thy mercy is more than a match for my heart
Which wonders to feel its own hardness depart
Dissolved by Thy goodness, I fall to the ground
And weep for the praise of the mercy I've found

(Children ages 4&5 may leave for Children’s Church.)

Great Father of mercies! Thy goodness I own
And the covenant love of Thy crucified Son
All praise to the Spirit whose whisper divine
Seals mercy and pardon and righteousness mine!

APPLYING GOD’S WORD

Pastor Dave Clelland - "Full of Mercy"Luke 6:27-36

* RESPONDING IN SONG

Hymn 499 - Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me

* BENEDICTION

Titus 3:4–7, 15

PASTOR: But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,
he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done,
but because of his mercy. He saved us
through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,
so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
Grace be with you all.
ALL: Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! Amen.
