PREPARING IN STILLNESS

CHORAL INTROIT

  Rejoice In The Lord Always

Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say, rejoice!
Rejoice, rejoice, and again I say, rejoice!

CALL TO WORSHIP

Psalm 61:1–3

PASTOR: Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.
PEOPLE: From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint;
PASTOR: Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
PEOPLE: For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe.
ALL: I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
PASTOR: The Lord be with you! PEOPLE: And also with you!

PRAISING THE LORD

Hymn 699
  Like A River Glorious

CONFESSING OUR SINS PUBLICLY

Isaiah 59:12, 20

ALL: O Lord, no day of my life has passed that has not proved me guilty in your sight. Prayer has been uttered from a prayerless heart and praise has been a praiseless sound. My best services are filthy rags. I flee from the throne of perfect justice to your throne of boundless grace. Grant me to hear your voice assuring me that I am guilty, but pardoned; lost, but saved; wandering, but found; sinful, but cleansed. Our only hope is in Christ, and in his name we pray. Amen.

CONFESSING OUR SINS PRIVATELY

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Psalm 65:3–4

LEADER: Hear the promises of God to those who truly repent of their sins and trust in Christ: When we were overwhelmed by sins, you atoned for our transgressions. Blessed is the man you choose and bring near to live in your courts! We are filled with the good things of your house, of your holy temple. Now, lift up your hearts!

PEOPLE: We lift them up to the Lord!

RESPONDING IN SONG

Ensemble & Congregation
  Shout to the Lord

My Jesus, my Savior, Lord, there is none like you:
All of my days I want to praise the wonders of your mighty love.
My Comfort, my Shelter, Tower of refuge and strength;
Let every breath, all that I am, never cease to worship You.

Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King;
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of your name.
I sing for joy at the work of your hands,
Forever I’ll love you, forever I’ll stand;
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You.

Before the Throne of God Above

Before the throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea,
A great High Priest who name is “Love,” who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on His hands, my name is written on His heart;
I know that while in heaven He stands, no tongue can bid me thence depart,
No tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair, and tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look and see Him there, who made an end to all my sin.
Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free;
For God, the Just, is satisfied to look on Him and pardon me,
To look on Him and pardon me.

Behold Him there, the risen Lamb, my perfect, spotless Righteousness,
The great unchangeable I AM, the King of glory and of grace!
One with Himself I cannot die, my soul is purchased by His blood;
My life is hid with Christ on high, with Christ, my Savior and my God,
With Christ, my Savior and my God, with Christ, my Savior and my God,
With Christ my Savior and my God!

THANKING GOD FOR HIS PRESENCE

LEADER: We give thanks to you, Lord, for you are good.
ALL: Your love endures forever. Amen.

CONFESSING OUR FAITH

Heidelberg Catechism 116 & 117

LEADER: Why is prayer necessary for Christians?

PEOPLE: Because prayer is the most important part of the thankfulness which God requires of us. Moreover, God will give His grace and the Holy Spirit only to those who constantly and with heartfelt longing ask Him for these gifts and thank Him for them.

LEADER: What belongs to a prayer which pleases God and is heard by Him?

PEOPLE: First, we must from the heart call upon the one true God only, who has revealed Himself in His Word, for all that He has commanded us to pray. Second, we must thoroughly know our need and misery, so that we may humble ourselves before God. Third, we must rest on this firm foundation that, although we do not deserve it, God will certainly hear our prayer for the sake of Christ our Lord, as He has promised us in His Word.

In The Rifted Rock I’m Resting (Dengler)

In the rifted rock I’m resting, safely sheltered, I abide.
There no foes nor storms molest me while within the cleft I hide.

Now I’m resting, sweetly resting in the cleft once made for me.
Jesus, blessed Rock of Ages, I will hide myself in Thee.

Long pursued by sin and Satan, weary, sad, I longed for rest.
Then I found this heav’nly shelter opened in my Savior’s breast.

Peace beyond my understanding, joy the world can never give,
Now in Jesus, I am finding; in his smiles of love I live.

PRAISING OUR GOD

Doxology (Hymn 733)

Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise him, all creatures here below, Alleluia, Alleluia
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.

DEDICATING OUR LIVES & GIFTS

Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

PREPARING TO HEAR GOD'S WORD

Ensemble & Congregation
  Here in This Place

Lay your burden down, ev’ry care you carry,
And come to the table of grace, for there is mercy.
We come just as we are, though we’re all unworthy
To enter Your presence, O Lord, for You are holy.

We lift our hearts, we lift our hands, we fall on our knees and pray,
To the King of kings, for the love You bring is here in this place.
We raise our voices, raise our song, we offer You our praise.
You’re the King of kings and the joy You bring is here,
You are here in this place.

Fill our lives with praise; show us Your forgiveness,
And give us the faith to believe that You’ve redeemed us.
You are Lord of all and we give You glory.
All honor and power and praise, for You are worthy.

What A Friend We Have In Jesus

RECEIVING GOD'S BLESSING

1 Peter 5:6–7; 2 Thess. 3:16, 18

PASTOR: Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

ALL: The Lord is King forever! Hallelujah! Amen.
