CALL TO WORSHIP

PASTOR: The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life — of whom shall I be afraid?

PEOPLE: When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.

ALL: One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.

PASTOR: The Lord be with you!

CONFESSING OUR SINS PUBLICLY

ALL: O most great, most just and gracious God, You are of purer eyes than to behold iniquity, but You have promised mercy through Jesus Christ to all that repent and believe in Him. We confess that we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. We have neglected your holy worship. We have not sought Your Kingdom first. You have revealed Your wonderful love to us in Christ and offered us pardon and salvation in Him, but we have turned away. We have run into temptation, and the sin that we should have hated, we have committed.

Have mercy on us, most merciful Father! In Your Son is our salvation, in Your promises our hope. Take us for Your children and give us the Spirit of Your Son, through Jesus Christ our only Savior. Amen.

CONFESSING OUR SINS PRIVATELY

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

LEADER: Hear the promises of God to those who truly repent of their sins and trust in Christ: The LORD says, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” Now, lift up your hearts!

PEOPLE: We lift them up to the Lord!

RESPONDING IN SONG

THANKING GOD FOR HIS PRESENCE

LEADER: We give thanks to you, Lord, for you are good.
ALL: Your love endures forever. Amen.

CONFESSING OUR FAITH

LEADER: Since Christ has died for us, why do we still have to die?

PEOPLE: Our death is not a payment for our sins, but it puts an end to sin and is an entrance into eternal life.

LEADER: What further benefit do we receive from Christ's sacrifice and death on the cross?

PEOPLE: Through Christ's death our old nature is crucified, put to death, and buried with Him, so that the evil desires of the flesh may no longer reign in us, but that we may offer ourselves to Him as a sacrifice of thankfulness.

Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
