WELCOMING THE ASSEMBLY

PASTOR: The Lord be with you!
PEOPLE: And also with you!

CONFESSING OUR SINS

ALL: Merciful God, in your gracious presence we confess our sin. Although Christ is among us as our peace, we are a people divided against ourselves as we cling to the values of a broken world. We pursue profit and pleasures that we should not and harbor jealousy against our neighbors. We abuse your good gifts of freedom, intellect and reason, and have turned them into bonds of oppression.

Lord, have mercy upon us; heal and forgive us. Set us free to serve you in the world as agents of your reconciling love in Jesus Christ. Amen.

CONFESSING OUR SINS PRIVATELY

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Isaiah 53:5-6

PASTOR: Hear the promises of God to those who truly repent of their sins and trust in Christ: But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. Now, lift up your hearts!

PEOPLE: We lift them up to the Lord!

SINGING TO THE LORD

Hymn 30

Our God, Our Help in Ages Past (stanzas 1, 2, 4, 6, 7 with ‘Amen’)

CALL TO WORSHIP

from Psalm 124:8; 95:1-2

PASTOR: Our help is in the name of the Lord,

PEOPLE: Who made heaven and earth.

PASTOR: Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord and shout with joy to the rock of our salvation!

ALL: Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.

RESPONDING IN SONG

CONFESSING OUR FAITH

Heidelberg Catechism, 59-61

PASTOR: What does it help you now that you believe in the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting?

PEOPLE: In Christ I am righteous before God and heir to life everlasting.

PASTOR: How are you righteous before God?

PEOPLE: Only by true faith in Jesus Christ. Although my conscience accuses me that I have grievously sinned against all God’s commandments, have never kept any of them, and am still in-clined to all evil, yet God, without any merit of my own, out of mere grace, imputes to me the perfect satisfaction, righteousness, and holiness of Christ. He grants these to me as if I had never had nor committed any sin, and as if I myself had accom-plished all the obedience which Christ has rendered for me, if only I accept this gift with a believing heart.

PASTOR: Why do you say that you are righteous only by faith?

PEOPLE: Not that I am acceptable to God on account of the worthiness of my faith, for only the satisfaction, righteousness, and holiness of Christ is my righteousness before God. I can receive this righteousness and make it mine my own by faith only.

THANKING GOD FOR HIS PRESENCE

PASTOR: We give thanks to you, Lord, for you are good.
ALL: Your love endures forever. Amen.

PRAYING TOGETHER FOR GOD'S PEOPLE

CHORAL ANTHEM

Let All the People Sing Praise (Larson)

I was glad when they said unto me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord!”

Praise the Lord in His sanctuary! Praise the Lord in the firmament!
Let the earth resound in joyous praise!
Let all the people sing praise unto the Lord!

Praise the Lord, all you people, let His name be exalted
From the dawn to the setting of the sun.
Praise the Lord, all you people, worship the Lord, all you people,
Glory to God who sits enthroned on high!

I have seen You in the sanctuary. I’ve beheld Your power and Your glory.
Because Your love is better than life; Your love, is better than life.
With my lips I will praise and glorify You as long as I live,
And I will lift my hands in praise to You!

Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. PREPARING TO HEAR GOD'S WORD

Ensemble & Congregation

Before the Throne of God Above

Before the throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea,
A great High Priest who name is “Love,” who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on His hands, my name is written on His heart;
I know that while in heaven He stands, no tongue can bid me thence depart,
No tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair, and tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look and see Him there, who made an end to all my sin.
Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free;
For God, the Just, is satisfied to look on Him and pardon me,
To look on Him and pardon me.

Behold Him there, the risen Lamb, my perfect, spotless Righteousness,
The great unchangeable I AM, the King of glory and of grace!
One with Himself I cannot die, my soul is purchased by His blood;
My life is hid with Christ on high, with Christ, my Savior and my God,
With Christ, my Savior and my God, with Christ, my Savior and my God,
With Christ my Savior and my God!

As the Deer

As the deer panteth for the water, so my soul longeth after Thee.
You alone are my heart’s desire, and I long to worship Thee.

You alone are my strength, my shield; to You alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my heart’s desire, and I long to worship Thee.

You’re my friend and You are my brother, even though You are a King.
I love You more than any other, so much more than anything.

Repeat Chorus

I want You more than gold or silver, only You can satisfy.
You alone are the real joy giver and the apple of my eye.

Repeat Chorus
