THE LORD'S DAY

March 24, 2002 - 10:30 A.M.

Worship Theme: The Triumphant King

PRELUDE

Eric & Rob Anderson

ACTIVITIES & CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH

PREPARING IN STILLNESS

WELCOMING THE ASSEMBLY

PASTOR: The Lord be with you!
PEOPLE: And also with you!

CONFESSING OUR SINS

PASTOR: Eternal God, before whose face the generations rise and pass away, you formed us in your image and willed us to live before you in peace and love.

PEOPLE: We confess we are not the people you created or called us to be; we have not loved you with our whole heart or our neighbors as ourselves.

ALL: Forgive us our sin, O God, and create in us a new and willing spirit, so that in our living, we may serve you, and in our dying, enter the joy of your presence, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

CONFESSING OUR SINS PRIVATELY

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

1 Peter 2:24

PASTOR: Hear the promises of God to those who truly repent of their sins and trust in Christ: And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live in righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. Now, lift up your hearts!

PEOPLE: We lift them up to the Lord!

SINGING TO THE LORD

Hymn 235

All Glory, Laud, and Honor

CALL TO WORSHIP

from Psalm 118

PASTOR: The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone;

PEOPLE: The LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.

PASTOR: This is the day the LORD has made.

PEOPLE: Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

PASTOR: O Lord, save us;

ALL: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD. From the house of the LORD we bless you.

RESPONDING IN SONG

Hymn 246

Man of Sorrows! What a Name

THANKING GOD FOR HIS PRESENCE

PASTOR: We give thanks to you, Lord, for you are good.
ALL: Your love endures forever. Amen.

CONFESSING OUR FAITH

Heidelberg Catechism, 50-52

PASTOR: Why do our creeds say, “And sits at the right hand of God”?

PEOPLE: Christ ascended into heaven to manifest Himself there as Head of His Church, through whom the Father governs all things.

PASTOR: How does the glory of Christ, our Head, benefit us?

PEOPLE: First, by His Holy Spirit He pours out heavenly gifts upon us, His members. Second, by His power He defends and preserves us against all enemies.

PASTOR: What comfort is it to you that Christ will come to judge the living and the dead?

PEOPLE: In all my sorrow and persecution I lift up my head and eagerly await as judge from heaven the very same person who before has submitted Himself to the judgment of God for my sake, and has removed all the curse from me. He will cast all His and my enemies into everlasting condemnation, but He will take me and all His chosen ones to Himself into heavenly joy and glory.

PRAYING TOGETHER FOR GOD'S PEOPLE

CHORAL ANTHEM

Choir

How Blest is He Who Comes (Purifoy)

Sing Hosanna, Hosanna! Sing Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest!
Sing Hosanna, Hosanna! Sing Hosanna in the highest!
Sing Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna. How blest is He who comes.

Let us rejoice in Christ whose Kingdom is at hand!
He comes to be the Lord of Life in every life and land.
When, lowly born He came, for us condemned to die,
They brought Him to Jerusalem with this triumphant cry:

Sing Hosanna, Hosanna! Sing Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest!
Sing Hosanna, Hosanna! Sing Hosanna in the highest!
Sing Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna. How blest is He who comes.

Rejoice that now He comes in those who walk His way,
To make this stricken world His own, and every day His day.
Then let us yield to Him the loyalty He claims,
And never cease to celebrate the name above all names!

Sing Hosanna, Hosanna! Sing Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest!
Sing Hosanna, Hosanna! Sing Hosanna in the highest!
Sing Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna. How blest is He who comes.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise him, all creatures here below, Alleluia, Alleluia
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.

DEDICATING OUR LIVES & GIFTS

Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

PREPARING TO HEAR GOD'S WORD

Ensemble & Congregation

Alas, and Did My Savior Bleed

Alas! and did my Savior bleed and did my Sov’reign Die?
Would He devote that sacred head for such a worm as I?
Was it for sins that I had done He groaned upon the tree?
Amazing pity, grace unknown, and love beyond degree.

My God, why would You shed Your blood, so pure and undefiled,
To make a sinful one like me Your chosen, precious child?

Well might the sun in darkness hide and shut His glories in,
When Christ, the mighty Maker died for man the creature’s sin;
Thus might I hide my blushing face while His dear cross appears,
Dissolve my heart in thankfulness and melt my eyes to tears.

Repeat Chorus

PASTOR: Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”

To Him be honor and might.
