THE LORD'S DAY

January 27, 2002 - 10:30 A.M.

Worship Theme: The Sacrifice of Christ

PRELUDE

Ms. Lynna Harbison

ACTIVITIES & CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH

PREPARING IN STILLNESS

WELCOMING THE ASSEMBLY

PASTOR: The Lord be with you!
PEOPLE: And also with you!

CONFESSING OUR SINS

ALL: O God of grace, You have imputed my sin to my substitute, and have imputed His righteousness to me, clothing me with a bridegroom’s robe, decking me with jewels of holiness. But in my Christian walk I am still in rags; my best prayers are stained with sin; my penitential tears are so much impurity; my confessions of wrong are so many aggravations of sin. I need to repent of my repentance; I need my tears to be washed; I have no robe to bring to cover my sins, no loom to weave my own righteousness; I am always standing clothed in filthy garments, and by grace am always receiving change of raiment, for You justify the ungodly.

Grant me never to lose sight of the exceeding sinfulness of sin, the exceeding righteousness of salvation, the exceeding glory of Christ, the exceeding beauty of holiness, and the exceeding wonder of grace! Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

1 John 1:9

PASTOR: Hear the promises of God to those who truly repent of their sins and trust in Christ: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Now, lift up your hearts!

PEOPLE: We lift them up to the Lord!

DRAWING NEAR TO WORSHIP

Hymn 529

Love Divine, All Loves Excelling

CALL TO WORSHIP

Psalm 100

PASTOR: Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

PEOPLE: Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

PASTOR: Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

ALL: For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

RESPONDING IN SONG

Hymn 252

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

THANKING GOD FOR HIS PRESENCE

PASTOR: We give thanks to you, Lord, for you are good.
ALL: Your love endures forever. Amen.

CONFESSING OUR FAITH

Heidelberg Catechism, 33-34

PASTOR: Why is He called God’s only begotten Son, since we also are children of God?

PEOPLE: Because Christ alone is the eternal, natural Son of God. We, however, are children of God by adoption, through grace, for Christ’s sake.

PASTOR: Why do you call Him our Lord?

PEOPLE: Because He has ransomed us, body and soul, from all our sins, not with silver or gold but with His precious blood, and has freed us from all the power of the devil to make us His own possession.

PRAYING TOGETHER FOR GOD'S PEOPLE

PREPARING TO HEAR GOD'S WORD

Ensemble & Congregation

Here in This Place

Lay your burden down, ev’ry care you carry,
And come to the table of grace, for there is mercy.
We come just as we are, though we’re all unworthy
To enter Your presence, O Lord, for You are holy.

We lift our hearts, we lift our hands, we fall on our knees and pray,
To the King of kings, for the love You bring is here in the place.
We raise our voices, raise our song, we offer You our praise.
You’re the King of kings and the joy You bring is here,
You are here in this place.

Fill our lives with praise; show us Your forgiveness,
And give us the faith to believe that You’ve redeemed us.
You are Lord of all and we give You glory.
All honor and power and praise, for You are worthy.

Repeat Chorus Twice

Galatians 6:9-10, 18

PASTOR: Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers.

ALL: The Lord is King forever! Hallelujah! Amen.
