THE LORD'S DAY

January 13, 2002 - 10:30 A.M.

Worship Theme: Paid Debt

PRELUDE

Ms. Lynna Harbison

ACTIVITIES & CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH

PREPARING IN STILLNESS

WELCOMING THE ASSEMBLY

PASTOR: The Lord be with you!
PEOPLE: And also with you!

CHORAL CONFESSION

Create in Me (Purifoy) Choir

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
And cast me not away from Thy Presence, restore to me the joy of Thy salvation,
And uphold me with Thy willing Spirit.

CONFESSING OUR SINS

ALL: Almighty God, who is rich in mercy to all those who call upon You; hear us as we come to You humbly confessing our sins and transgressions, and imploring Your mercy and forgiveness. We have broken Your holy laws by our deeds and by our words, and by the sinful affections of our hearts. We confess before You our disobedience and ingratitude, our pride and willfulness; and all our failures and shortcomings toward You and toward our fellow men.

Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; and of Your great goodness grant that we may hereafter serve and please You in newness of life; through the merit and mediation of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Psalm 103:2-4

PASTOR: Hear the promises of God to those who truly repent of their sins and trust in Christ: The LORD forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases; He redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion. Now, lift up your hearts!

PEOPLE: We lift them up to the Lord!

DRAWING NEAR TO WORSHIP

Hymn 296

All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name (stanzas 1, 3, 5, 6)

CALL TO WORSHIP

Psalm 118:24; 34:3

PASTOR: This is the day the LORD has made;
PEOPLE: Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
PASTOR: O magnify the LORD with me;
ALL: Let us exalt his name together.

RESPONDING IN SONG

Hymn 97

We Praise You O God, Our Redeemer

CONFESSING OUR FAITH

Heidelberg Catechism, 29-30

PASTOR: Why is the Son of God called Jesus, that is, Savior?

PEOPLE: Because He saves us from all our sins, and because salvation is not to be sought or found in anyone else.

PASTOR: Do those believe in the only Savior Jesus who seek their salvation and well-being from saints, in themselves, or anywhere else?

PEOPLE: No. Though they boast of Him in words, they in fact deny the only Savior Jesus. For one of two things must be true: either Jesus is not a complete Savior, or those who by true faith accept this Savior must find in Him all that is necessary for their salvation.

THANKING GOD FOR HIS PRESENCE

PASTOR: We give thanks to you, Lord, for you are good.
ALL: Your love endures forever. Amen.

PRAYING TOGETHER FOR GOD'S PEOPLE

Pastor Dave Clelland

PASTOR: Lord, in your mercy:
ALL: Hear our prayer.

Doxology (Old Hundredth)

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below,
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

DEDICATING OUR LIVES & GIFTS

Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

PREPARING TO HEAR GOD'S WORD

Ensemble & Congregation

Surely Goodness and Mercy

So long have I wandered in darkness; in the shadows of grief and despair.
But the Lord in His mercy reminds me of the hope that He’s bringing to bear.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all of the days of my life.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all of the days,
All the days of my life.

His mercies are new ev’ry morning; His compassion and love never end.
His faithfulness reaches to the heavens and His blood sets me free from my sin.

Repeat Chorus

The Lord is my constant companion; by His Spirit, He makes Himself known.
He has placed His anointing upon me as a seal to declare me His own.

Repeat Chorus

Ensemble only: And evermore shall my heart overflow with His lovingkindness
And I shall dwell in my Savior’s house forever, and forever.

Everyone: Repeat Chorus

RECEIVING GOD'S BLESSING

2 Peter 1:10-11; 1 Timothy 1:17

PASTOR: Brothers and sisters, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory.

ALL: The Lord is King forever! Hallelujah! Amen.
