Lo! He Comes with Clouds Descending

CONFESSING OUR SINS

PASTOR: Eternal God, before whose face the generations rise and pass away, you formed us in your image and willed us to live before you in peace and love.

PEOPLE: We confess we are not the people you created or called us to be; we have not loved you with our whole heart or our neighbors as ourselves.

ALL: Forgive us our sin, O God, and create in us a new and willing spirit, so that in our living, we may serve you, and in our dying, enter the joy of your presence, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

1 Peter 2:24

PASTOR: Hear the promises of God to those who truly repent of their sins and trust in Christ: And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live in righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. Now, lift up your hearts!

PEOPLE: We lift them up to the Lord!

CALL TO WORSHIP

Psalm 116:12-13; 96:1-2

PASTOR: How can we repay the LORD for all his goodness to us?

PEOPLE: We will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD.

PASTOR: Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.

ALL: Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.

RESPONDING IN SONG

Hymn 347

The Church’s One Foundation - (stanzas 1, 2, 4, 5)

CONFESSING OUR FAITH

Heidelberg Catechism, 6-8

PASTOR: Did God create man wicked and perverse?

PEOPLE: No, on the contrary, God created man good and in His image, that is, in true righteousness and holiness, so that he might rightly know God his Creator, heartily love Him, and live with Him in eternal blessedness to praise and glorify Him.

PASTOR: From where, then, did man’s depraved nature come?

PEOPLE: From the fall and disobedience of our first parents, Adam and Eve, in Paradise, for there our nature became so corrupt that we are all conceived and born in sin.

PASTOR: But are we so corrupt that we are totally unable to do any good and inclined to all evil?

PEOPLE: Yes, unless we are regenerated by the Spirit of God.

THANKING GOD FOR HIS PRESENCE

PASTOR: We give thanks to you, Lord, for you are good.
ALL: Your love endures forever. Amen.

PREPARING TO HEAR GOD'S WORD

Ensemble & Congregation

In My Heart

In my heart there is a stirring, one that did not start with me;
A love to worship my Creator, to show His love for all to see.

I will worship, I will honor, I will exalt the Lord above;
All my days I'll sing the praises of His great redeeming love.

In my heart there is a treason, one that poisons all my love.
Take my heart and consecrate it, wash it in Your cleansing blood.

Repeat Chorus

Tie me to the Rock unchanging, tie me to His wondrous cross.
I'll fix my eyes upon the Savior, all other things I count as loss.

Repeat Chorus

Tie me to the Rock unchanging, and His great redeeming love.

STATING OUR VISION

As we confront the challenges and opportunities of the third millennium, our vision is to be a worshipping community of disciples who are bringing God’s Kingdom to bear upon the world and building His Church among all peoples.

PREPARING TO COMMUNE WITH CHRIST

Ensemble & Congregation

Think About His Love

Think about His love, think about his goodness,
Think about His grace that's brought us through.
For as high as the heavens above, so great is the measure of our Father's love;
Great is the measure of our Father's love.

How could I forget his love? How could I forget His mercy?
He satisfies, He satisfies, He satisfies my desires.
Great is the measure of our Father's love.

WORDS OF INTRODUCTION & INSTITUTION

GIVING THANKS

PASTOR: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

PEOPLE: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

PASTOR: O God of mercy and might, in your wisdom, you made all things and sustain them by your power. You have called forth men and women in every age to be your servants and speak your word. When we rebelled against your call and turned from your ways, in your love you called us back to you. You delivered us from captivity, and made covenant to be our sovereign God. You sent prophets to call us to justice and compassion. Therefore, we praise you, joining our voices with the choirs of heaven and with all the faithful of every time and place, who forever sing to the glory of your name:

PEOPLE: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

PASTOR: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

PEOPLE: Hosanna in the highest.

PASTOR: We give you thanks that the body of the Lord Jesus was broken that we might be healed and that his blood was shed for the forgiveness of our sins.

ALL: We do this, Lord, in remembrance of you. Amen.

COMMUNING WITH OUR LORD

(Please hold elements until all are served.)

RESPONDING IN SONG

Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken - Hymn 347

RECEIVING GOD'S BLESSING

John 4:23-24; Revelation 15:3-4

PASTOR: People of God, a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and truth.

Great and marvelous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are your ways, King of the ages. Who will not fear you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.

ALL: The Lord is King forever! Hallelujah! Amen.
