TNPC Pulpit Committee Survey: a brief overview
Contributed by Michael BolingIn November, many TNPC members participated in a survey conducted by the pulpit search committee. The following two lists are a compilation of significant common responses.
Our strengths as a congregation:
- Almost complete unanimity that our great strength is in sound doctrine and solid teaching. This is a strong and valuable foundation.
- There is a great affection for, and bond with, those who have stayed. Moreover, there is a heartfelt appreciation for those who have stepped up to lead and provide an example.
- The spiritual maturity, commitment, and loyalty of those remaining at TNPC was noted and affirmed.
- Many commented about how pleased they were with the use of multi-generational talent in our services. The talent of the young women in our ensemble was frequently mentioned.
- The balance in our services.
- It was noted that - although the past year had been difficult - by God's grace and through His provision (including two caring and committed interim pastors, laity stepping into positions of leadership, sense of family, etc.) there have been many blessings and God's hand in all.
- We are the main reformed outpost in our immediate community.
Looking to the future (areas for prayer and consideration):
- We need to be purposeful in attracting young families.
- Our outreach is lacking. We need "to look out unto the fields, ripe unto harvest" and be quickened to make that a priority.
- Active pursuit of Christ's plan for Town North in 2010 and beyond.
- Based on our resources, we need to evaluate the best use of our people, finances, etc. Therefore, critical consideration of present programs might be helpful. Since several people in the congregation are familiar with Simple Church, this could be used as a possible paradigm to review existing programs.
